Opozco_Poland_1992Richard Edson established Cognoscenti Corporation in 1992 which specializes in Contemporary Folk and Outsider Art.  He was Director of The Folk Art Gallery in Baltimore from 1994 –1999.

Mr. Edson holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University, a Certificate of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute, College of Art, and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas. In addition he attended and worked at Georgetown University, University of Washington at Seattle, and The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.  He is an Outward Bound graduate in mountaineering and served as a delegate in Citizens Exchange Council studying Art and Architecture in Russia in 1980.

As an art collector and scholar Mr. Edson has traveled extensively in Mexico, South and Central America, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, Poland, North, South, and West Africa and the Caribbean basin.

Mr. Edson has been curator of numerous exhibitions including Baltimore Bohemians in 1987 and Folk Heroes in 1988.  He has organized many presentations like the Folk Art Film Forum(s) at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art and Maryland Institute, College of Art, and more recently Art as Other at the Rappahannock Community College in Virginia.

Richard Edson continues to collect and research in the field, travel, and is involved in creative writing and art.
